Warsaw Spire Lobby Wins Red Dot Design Award 2017 in Interior Architecture and Interior Design Category, Office Buildings Subcategory

One of Europe’s largest office developments in recent years, the Warsaw Spire complex developed in downtown Warsaw by Belgian real estate company Ghelamco includes the newly-built 220 meter Warsaw Spire “A” tower, the tallest and most modern office building in Poland. Massive Design, led by chief architect and designer Mac Stopa, designed nearly all the elements in the tower’s lobby and common areas, including the entrance to the elevators and elevator cab interiors, covering in total over 2,100 sq. meters.

Modern interiors with an organic futuristic vibe characterize the Warsaw Spire lobby. All organic-shaped elements, including walls, doors and ceiling, were custom designed by Mac Stopa and prefabricated using Glass Reinforced Gypsum (GRG) technology. The Y-shaped ceiling tiles tessellate in an organic pattern on the black background. The floor and reception desk form an artistic installation, in which the black granite is sculptured into the desk shaped like a flying carpet. Behind it, is a wall made from hundreds of custom 3D GRG tiles with illuminated Warsaw Spire logo. The flooring is Laminam’s award-winning 6 mm Star Maker large format quartz tiles designed by Mac Stopa, which won a Red Dot Design Award Best of the Best 2016. The tile’s pattern is composed from a smaller scale 3D pentagonal geometry organized in a hexagonal shading effect. The lobby’s glass balustrades are decorated with similar 3D graphics. For seating, the tessellating Drum armchairs and poufs by Mac Stopa for Cappellini allow for multiple configurations. The Drums’ fronts are in Bi-elastic upholstery with Mac’s 3D Cube graphic pattern. A futuristic entrance leads to the elevators with custom ceiling made from mirror and illuminated LEDs in a Y-shape.

The finishes designed for serial production were coordinated with the custom interior solutions, which allowed to create the dynamic flow of organic geometries throughout the space, in particular on the walls, floors, ceiling and furniture, achieving an overall effect of harmony and design unity. The elevator cab interiors with multiple reflections and artistic impressions add to the overall “wow” effect of the lobby interiors.

The Warsaw Spire Lobby interiors project received the Red Dot Design Award 2017 in the Interior Architecture and Interior Design Category, Office Buildings Subcategory. The Red Dot Awards, organized by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany, is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious juried design competitions. The Warsaw Spire project was selected from among more than 5,500 entries from 54 countries. For the first time in the competition’s history, this internationally sought-after Red Dot seal of design quality was awarded to an interior architecture project located in Poland. www.red-dot.de

ARSTYL® Wall Tile Collection by Mac Stopa for NMC Wins Red Dot Design Award 2017 in Materials and Surfaces Category

ARSTYL® Wall Tiles designed by Mac Stopa for NMC is a collection of 3D tiles made of high-density rigid polyurethane foam. The collection features Coral, Ray and Wing, three nature-inspired designs associated with air, sea and flowing movements.

A coral wave for walls in motion, Coral produces a powerful effect for bold interiors. Coral’s inner part is asymmetrical. In addition to one directional geometries, the look of random geometry can also be achieved thanks to Coral’s asymmetrical tessellating scalloped surface. Ray, with its defined rhomboid shape, allows to create multiple grouting patterns, including one-directional, zig zag, and triangular patterns, among others, while maintaining its hexagonal organic texture. Wing tiles create a three-dimensional texture of braided geometry with elegantly-defined shadows.

Each of the designs in the collection can be used to decorate an entire wall or several tiles may be placed together on the wall to create an artistic sculpture. The modular tiles produce a wide range of geometrical compositions and visual effects producing a multitude of artistic expressions, allowing the user to create and shape unique and innovative interiors.

The ARSTYL® Wall Tile Collection was awarded the internationally recognized seal of design quality, the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2017 in two categories: Materials and Surfaces and Interior Design Elements. The Red Dot Awards, organized by Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen in Essen, Germany, is one of the world’s largest and most prestigious juried design competitions. The ARSTYL® Wall Tiles collection was honored with a Red Dot Award from among more than 5,500 entries from 54 countries. According to the Red Dot jury statements: “The ARSTYL® Wall Tiles elements stand out for their both geometric as well as organic design vocabulary. Their versatility and expressive nature are, in addition, appealing features.” ”The many different combination options offered by ARSTYL® Wall Tiles characterize the design of these 3D wall elements. As eye-catchers, they give their surrounding an artistic feel.” www.walltiles.arstyl.com, www.red-dot.de

In addition to Art Walk’s outstanding design and functionality, the location and surroundings of Art Walk are phenomenal. Click here to watch the Art Walk video

ARSTYL® Wall Tile Collection by Mac Stopa for NMC Wins Interior Design Best of Year Honoree Award 2016 in Wall Application: 3D Category

The colorful three-dimensional decorative wall tiles made of polyurethane feature Wing, Coral and Ray, three nature-inspired designs associated with air, sea and flowing movements. Each wall tile can be arranged individually, horizontally, vertically or modularly, producing a wide range of visual effects, including artwork. Wing can be installed horizontally and vertically, allowing to create a braided effect. It appears elegant and smooth, but also has a certain depth. Wing’s angles contrast perfectly with each other so that the wall elements have a very harmonic effect. Coral can be combined in any configuration as all six sides have identical geometry. Coral’s inner part is asymmetrical. In addition to one directional geometries, the look of random geometry can also be achieved with Coral. Ray also allows to create both symmetric and asymmetric geometries. The three unique designs in the ARSTYL® Wall Tile Collection create a multitude of different artistic impressions. www.walltiles.arstyl.com

Pelikan is a new chair designed by Mac Stopa with M. Ballendat for Profim. Pelikan’s form adds a sense of freedom to interiors. The chair, like a pelican, has a special storage place, which may come in handy if space is limited. The form of the pelikan with its large beak was incorporated into the design of the chair. “Designing is not about giving form. It is about discovering it. I often search for it in nature. I try to give softness and smoothness to objects. The pelican’s natural form has always appealed to me. In the Pelikan chair, its beak is represented by the seat”, said Mac Stopa, the chair’s designer. This collection is a solution for those interiors where any free space is invaluable. The lower part of the seat is fitted with a space in which one can place a book, a laptop or a bag. Pelikan is available in two versions – with or without an armrest. The armrest is made from a soft touch material. There are four bases to choose from: a four leg frame, cantilever, a round flat base and a four-star base. Pelikan was awarded the prestigious Red Dot Award: Product Design 2015. www.profim.eu, en.red-dot.org

Breaking Form Collection by Mac Stopa in Collaboration With the Mohawk Group Wins Red Dot Design Award 2015

In collaboration with the Mohawk Group, Mac Stopa designed the award-winning Breaking Form modular carpet collection. Introducing a unique 12-inch by 36-inch (30 cm by 90 cm) modular carpet plank, the Breaking Form collection includes patterns with fluid movements and modern geometrics that can be configured to create at a minimum 10 different looks. With the Breaking Form collection, patterns achieve multiple directional tessellations and allow for laying down multiple tile compositions depending on how the tiles are organized in the space, successfully transforming the floor – a two dimensional product into something three-dimensional. Three patterns in the collection, Hexagonal Infusion, Dotted Infusion and Spherical Infusion, were introduced at NeoCon 2014.

Mac’s Table by Mac Stopa for Tonon is a table system with a modular sculptural leg that offers unlimited possibilities. The reversible geometry of the leg allows for creating an infinite number of table base compositions as well as multiple matching table top shapes and dimensions in a variety of materials. The modular leg base comes in three options: soft touch medium density integral polyurethane foam in 12 different colors, American walnut and oak veneer. The user decides the look of the table: light or dark wood veneer, monochromatic or colored like a rainbow in a soft touch material. A steel junction component joins the modular legs together. Thanks to the leg’s stackability, the table may be easily transported. The table system is available also in customized dimensions. Made in Italy, Mac’s Table is distributed in the US by Sandler Seating.

Penta’s innovative design is formed from a hybrid of two thermoformed solid surface materials: DuPont™ Corian® and translucent Chroma by 3form. The contrast between the Corian® material and translucent organic shapes in Chroma create the illusion of holes in the sink’s structure. The smooth seamless connections between the two materials and the many interesting illumination and shadow effects achieved with the Penta sink create a truly stunning effect.

Ghelamco Arena, Ghent, Belgium – Interiors Project by Massive Design Wins Interior Design Best of Year Honoree Award 2013

We are pleased to announce that Massive Design has won an Interior Design magazine Best of Year Honoree Award 2013 for the Ghelamco Arena project in the public space category.

The Ghelamco Arena is a newly-built 20,000-seat multi-functional sports arena located in Ghent, Belgium.  The developer of the Ghelamco Arena, the Belgium company Ghelamco NV, commissioned Massive Design to provide the interior design for 20,000 sq. m. (200,000 sq. ft.) of the stadium’s interiors, including floor finishes, ceiling and lighting design.  The interior design project included the design of the main entrance and ticket counter; first floor lounge and bar area; the main circulation corridor on the second floor below the stands where the bar and dining facilities are located; locker rooms/spa area for the players with Jacuzzi, massage and relaxation rooms; as well as graphic design for select areas.

Main design features include covering existing concrete and steel pillars and rectangular openings in the main entrance lobby with organic-shaped columns in molded acrylic gypsum custom by Mac Stopa.  The geometry of the columns flows fluently into the sculpted organic-shaped ceiling modules illuminated with blue LED linear lights. Also featured are modular pentagonal ceiling panels with acoustical sound absorption properties, whose shape resembles the classic geometry of the stitched panels of a soccer ball.  Approximately 10,000 Ecophon boards were cut to size and shape custom designed by Mac Stopa.

Other design features include massive organic openings with wavy perimeter between entrance lobby and first floor lounge area; suspended lighting shaped like a soccer ball reflecting different colors and color sequences custom by Mac Stopa; and dynamic 3-D graphics of black and white soccer balls on the second floor bar counters.

The modern and creative interiors incorporate a well-defined soccer theme and bring a new level of design to stadium interiors, differentiating Ghelamco Arena from other sports stadiums in Europe.  The modular panels used throughout the interiors maximize sound absorption, important for a stadium constructed primarily of concrete and glass.

Today, the Ghelamco Arena has one of the most impressive stadium interiors in Belgium, and perhaps in all of Europe. As the home stadium for the local soccer team K. A. A. Ghent, the Ghelamco Arena hosted the stadium’s first soccer match as part of the stadium’s grand opening celebration on July 17, 2013.

Massive Design won the Bronze Medal for Commercial Interior Design at the Bienal Miami + Beach 2003 competition for the Żywiec Group (Heineken) project.  Organized by a collaboration of the Miami Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, Florida International University’s School of Architecture, the Tropicalia Program, Competitions Magazine and the Pan American Federation of Architects Associations, the international competition distinguished Massive Design with the award for the design of Żywiec Group’s corporate headquarters in Warsaw, Poland

Przemyslaw “Mac” Stopa, Massive Design’s founder and chief architect and designer said about the award winning design: “The interior design strategy for Grupa Żywiec’s new corporate headquarters was twofold: first, the goal was to reflect the company’s changeover to modern brewing technology while at the same time preserving its several hundred year brewing traditions.  Equally important, the design strategy was to use architecture to create an identifiable environment reflecting the values and traditions of an integrated Żywiec Group while creating a comfortable and motivating work environment for its employees.”
